Your first visit, from the door to the shelf

What actually happens when you join and come in for the first time — no jargon, no surprises.

Friends, arms around each other, looking out over a bay

Walking into a members' club for the first time is not like walking into a shop, and a little idea of what to expect makes it easier. Here is the whole arc, start to finish.

Before you come in

You apply — online or at the counter — and tell the club a little about yourself. Membership is for adults, so there is an age requirement, and it is a decision you make rather than something sold to you. Once the club has welcomed you in, you are a member.

The first visit

Bring identification. Your age has to be checked against a document, in person, before you can be signed up properly — nobody can verify that over the internet, and a club that skips it is not one to trust. This is a one-time thing.

Meet the people, not just the product. The staff behind the counter are the most useful thing in the room. Tell them it is your first time. A good club would rather spend five minutes helping you choose well than sell you the strongest thing on the shelf.

Look at what is actually there. The shelf is not a fixed menu — it changes with what has been grown and harvested. You will see the cultivars available today, and, increasingly, their strain, how they were grown, and their character.

Choosing, and your allowance

Membership usually comes with an allowance — how much you may take up over a period. It is there so the model stays what it is: personal use, not trade. Your member portal shows what you have used and what is left, so there is never a guess.

If you are unsure what to pick, our guide on choosing your first cannabis is written for exactly this moment. The short version: start gentle, and keep a note of what suited you.

After you leave

Your portal is where the club stays useful between visits — your history, what is on the shelf for you, and a note when something you liked is back in stock. It is worth signing into once, early, so it is there when you want it.

None of this is complicated. Come in, say it is your first time, and let the people who work there do what they are good at.
